The Devil Wears Prada 2: The Fashion Breakdown

The Devil Wears Prada 2 picks up where fashion left off—older, sharper, and more complicated. With print on the decline and power dynamics flipped, the sequel trades early-2000s gloss for smart, character-driven style that says as much about where they are now as it does about where they came from.

Nearly two decades after The Devil Wears Prada became the ultimate fashion-girl comfort film, the runway is being rolled out once again. The 2006 original - based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel - introduced us to Miranda Priestly’s icy one-liners, Andy Sachs’ makeover montage and the world of high fashion publishing. Now, in a post-print world, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is officially in production. The sequel sees Miranda (Meryl Streep) navigating the collapse of traditional media and confronting her former assistant Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), now a sharp-suited Dior executive with a billionaire boyfriend and a score to settle. As Miranda fights to keep Runway afloat, old power dynamics are reversed, and former protégés become rivals; with Anne Hathaway’s Andy rumoured to be caught somewhere in between. And while the plot promises drama, ambition and grudges that age like fine wine, let’s be honest, we’re here for the clothes.

The Outfits

Nearly two decades later, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is not trying to recreate the early-2000s magic - it’s evolving it. With filming underway in New York, we’ve already had our first look at what Andy, Miranda, Emily and Nigel are wearing - and what it says about where they are now. Here’s a closer look.

Andy Sachs

Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs is back - and she’s dressing for her next chapter. Andy is now grown-up, grounded and clearly navigating the chaos of modern media with a wardrobe to match. Andy’s most bohemian look so far is a patchwork Gabriela Hearst dress styled with a Fendi purse and an instantly iconic Runway garment bag (Look 1).

Next, we see her in a tailored pinstripe vest from Jean Paul Gaultier, leaning into the 2020s “corp-core” aesthetic. She pairs this with a vintage Coach briefcase (Look 2). We see the pinstripes return in another look featuring a blue pinstripe dress with a red vest as she sips coffee sitting outside an office - a perfect snapshot of the grown-up Andy (Look 3).

Her most striking look has been an all-white outfit with barrel-leg jeans, Prada pumps and an almost cape-like blouse (Look 4).

It’s very aspirational, but totally believable for a stylish 40-something New Yorker who has survived Miranda Priestly. Anne has also been spotted in a minimalist chic look with an Agolde denim maxi skirt and a clean white Toteme tank. Here, her chunky Velcro Chanel sandals have created buzz as a clear nod to her legendary Chanel boots from the first film (Look 5).

We continue to see these subtle and nostalgic nods to the first film, with a look that features a brown suede blazer and matching fringe bag, instantly evoking her iconic chocolate Prada jacket (Look 6). Andy’s new wardrobe is a seamless blend of evolution and nostalgia. She is no longer finding her footing in fashion - she’s now confidently leading her own lane.

Miranda Priestly

Miranda Priestly is still terrifying. And she’s still impeccable. Our first glimpse of Miranda is a leather column skirt, purple blouse and a minimalist cream trench (Look 7). It’s elegant, assertive and unmistakably Miranda. She’s later seen in a collared shirt and tailored trousers, paired with red heels and a camel coat - a look that leans into the modern CEO aesthetic without compromising her signature authority (Look 8). A standout look features a monochrome grey skirt suit, elevated with a gold belt and statement necklace chain (Look 9). It is a subtle nod to her dominance, even as the fashion world she once ruled begins to shift.

Emily Charlton

Emily Blunt’s character has had the sharpest career pivot - from second assistant to a high-powered Dior executive. And her wardrobe has evolved accordingly.

Her debut look is business couture at its finest: a black-and-white pinstripe outfit with a tightly cinched Wiederhoeft corset (Look 10). Reports suggest that she will be wearing Dior throughout the film, a smart alignment between character arc and costume. Emily’s look tells us everything: she’s in control now.

Nigel Kipling

He may not be centre stage, but Stanley Tucci’s Nigel still commands attention - this time through his accessories. He’s been spotted with one of the most covetable men’s bags of the year: Berluti’s E’Mio ‘Appennini’ briefcase, made from Venezia calfskin and packed with functional compartments (Look 11). It’s a smart choice for Nigel - discreet, stylish and expensive in a quiet luxury kind of way.

Nearly twenty years later, these characters aren’t just back - they’re evolved, elevated and as well-dressed as ever. From Dior power suits to Berluti briefcases, The Devil Wears Prada 2 reminds us that fashion is never just about the clothes - it is about ambition, identity and storytelling. If the first film made style cinematic, the sequel is shaping up to make it iconic all over again.
